Juvenile Law Center Announces New Board Members, New Staff and Promotions

The organization welcomes Dorothy Roberts, Jasmine E. Sessoms and Aaron Zamost to the Board of Directors

Philadelphia, PA (September 6, 2022) – Juvenile Law Center welcomes new board members Dorothy Roberts, Jasmine E. Sessoms and Aaron Zamost to its Board of Directors. The organization is also announcing the hire of Rhys Okun as Administrative Assistant and Jay Kimberley as Senior Communications Associate. Jasmin Randolph-Taylor was named as the organization’s newest Sol & Helen Zubrow Fellow in Children’s Law for 2022-2024.

“I am excited to join such a prestigious organization and contribute to the mission of advocating for the rights, dignity, equity and increased opportunity for youth,” said Jasmine Sessoms.

Dorothy Roberts added, “I am extremely excited to bring my passion for justice to Juvenile Law Center’s dedicated advocacy for children entangled in punitive state systems. I look forward to working with the other board members and everyone at Juvenile Law Center to advance its mission to ultimately abolish these systems, to dramatically reduce their immediate harms, and to build their equitable and humane replacements.”

"As a society, we all benefit from Juvenile Law Center's relentless advocacy on behalf of those most vulnerable,” said Aaron Zamost. “Eliminating systemic inequities in our justice system should not be a partisan issue. I am honored to play even a small part in the Center's work."

The board appointments come at the start of a new fiscal year for the organization. Said CEO Sue Mangold, “We are honored to welcome Dorothy Roberts, Jasmine Sessoms and Aaron Zamost to Juvenile Law Center’s Board of Directors. Dorothy’s writing on the harms of the child welfare system for families and communities and her abolition framework were critical to our recent strategic planning and we will benefit greatly from her participation in discussions of our work. Jasmine’s experience in governmental affairs at the local, state and national levels will be invaluable to our policy advocacy. Aaron’s pioneering work in the tech industry will help us develop new networks for our work and support. We appreciate their commitment to our mission and look forward to working with them.”

The organization is also promoting several staff members. Marcía Hopkins was promoted to the management team as Director of Youth Advocacy. Riya Saha Shah was promoted to Senior Managing Director. Tiffany Faith was named Paralegal Manager. Cathy Moffa was promoted to Youth Advocacy Program Senior Manager. Kade Diakite was named Youth Advocacy Program Manager. Vic Wiener was promoted to Staff Attorney.
