Philly DA Has Plan to Overhaul Juvenile Justice in The City

John N. Mitchell, The Philadelphia Tribune •

Under the plan, assistant district attorneys would offer pre-adjudication in most cases, recommending alternatives to juvenile detention.

Those measures will not be offered in some cases, such as when a youth has been charged with possession of a gun, has prior adjudication delinquency, or poses an immediate threat to the community. Many of those determinations will be made at the discretion of the assistant district attorney handling the case.

Krasner’s office is against the use of solitary confinement under any circumstances.
