Jessica Feierman, the associate director at Juvenile Law Center, told CNBC Make It, in an article posted on October 12, that this move could help push other states in a similar direction. (These laws are still active in Arkansas, Texas, Oregon, and more.)

“Yesterday's decision by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to free tens of thousands of families from any remaining court debt sets a crucial example for the rest of the country,” Feierman told the news outlet. “Court fines and fees cause overwhelming economic and emotional stress to families and undermine the rehabilitative goals of the juvenile justice system.”
