Sue Mangold to Retire From Juvenile Law Center
Dear Friends and Colleagues, it is with both sadness and gratitude that I share the news that after nearly 10 years at Juvenile Law Center, Susan Mangold will retire from her role as CEO. Under Sue’s leadership, Juvenile Law Center continues its tradition as the Nation’s preeminent legal advocacy organization for children in the justice and child welfare systems. Despite the multitude of social, political, and environmental disruptions with the COVID pandemic and co-occurring challenges, Sue has led the organization through these extremely challenging times, successfully pivoting when needed to meet the changing needs of clients and maintain the focus and effectiveness of the organization.
Nationally, Juvenile Law Center continues to lead the field in legal strategy and policy advocacy to promote equity and fairness, harm prevention, access to appropriate services and opportunities for success and well being of justice and child welfare involved youth. Juvenile Law Center advances reform and transformation nationwide on behalf of teens and young adults who are most likely to be marginalized, vilified, and neglected by the systems and services that are supposed to keep them safe.
Sue’s dedication to the mission and vision of Juvenile Law Center has been remarkable and evident throughout her tenure. As a leader, she has been consensus driven and collaborative, building a dedicated team who will successfully carry the mission of Juvenile Law Center forward. I am confident that we will continue to be a strong organization. Sue leads an excellent team who will continue to move the organization forward. We have an excellent Board and staff. We have a “vigorous” and exciting strategic plan that will guide us into the future.
Sue has done an excellent job preparing our Board and our staff for her departure, positioning us well for the appointment of an excellent CEO. We have formed a Board committee who will conduct a national search for Sue’s successor.
Finally, Sue has been an excellent steward for Juvenile Law Center, carrying on the work of its founders, Bob Schwartz and Marsha Levick, making Juvenile Law Center an even stronger organization as we head towards the Celebration of our 50th year of service in 2025.
Please join us in congratulating Sue on this career milestone and celebrating Sue’s accomplishments as she embarks on the next phase of her professional journey.
Sincerely,
Tami D. Benton
Board President
