Hillary Transue, a kids-for-cash victim who spent weeks behind bars over a minor infraction, has become a board member of the Juvenile Law Center in Philadelphia, a juvenile rights advocacy group.

“Joining Juvenile Law Center’s board is an emotional experience," Transue said in a statement. "It is a testament to the power of advocacy and compassion and what those things can do for a child, the aspirations that can be instilled, and the kind of loyalty that can be built. Former Luzerne County judges Mark A. Ciavarella Jr. and Michael T. Conahan were convicted of funneling juvenile defendants to two private, for-profit detention centers in exchange for $2.1 million in kickbacks.
