In a series of cases Juvenile Law Center filed appellate briefs arguing in each case that public policy supports the interpretation that Pennsylvania’s the Juvenile Act authorizes a dependency (child welfare) court to retain jurisdiction of youths 18 to 21 years of age and order county children & youth agencies to continue to serve those youth when those youth are engaged in a court of treatment or instruction.
The Pennsylvania Superior Court agreed, holding that children could remain in the custody of the child welfare system when the youth is engaged in a course of instruction and treatment.
