Appeal from the Administrative Order of the Dauphin County Juvenile Court

Juvenile Law Center filed an amicus brief in the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania arguing that the Harrisburg School Board should not be required to allow Dauphin County Juvenile Probation Officers to routinely enter schools carrying firearms. The Juvenile Court had issued an administrative order requiring the school to admit the armed officers.

Juvenile Law Center argued that the Juvenile Act did not authorize the order, and underscored the paucity of evidence and authority justified the presence of armed juvenile probation officers in school buildings. The brief argued that guns will not improve academic performance, increase attendance, or diminish the frequency of school referrals to juvenile court.

No opinion was issued.
