Announcing Juvenile Law Center's National Search for a New Executive Director

Juvenile Law Center,

Juvenile Law Center, the nation’s oldest non-profit public interest law firm for children, is seeking a new Executive Director. Our founding Executive Director, Bob Schwartz, is retiring October, 2015.

Established in 1975, Juvenile Law Center plays a national leadership role in shaping the law on behalf of children in the child welfare and justice systems to promote fairness, prevent harm, secure access to appropriate services, and ensure a successful transition from adolescence to adulthood. Winner of the MacArthur Foundation’s 2008 Creative and Effective Institutions Award (Juvenile Law Center was one of eight recipients worldwide), Juvenile Law Center has been at the forefront of ensuring the integration of developmental research into current law; we also work to ensure that laws, policies, and practices affecting youth are rooted in international principles of racial, ethnic and social equality.

Most of the youth on whose behalf we work are between 10 and 21 years of age and are among society’s most vulnerable. Our strategies include litigation, appellate advocacy, policy reform, public education, training, and strategic communications. We frequently participate as amicus curiae before the United States Supreme Court, as well as United States Courts of Appeals and state Supreme Courts in key cases.

Juvenile Law Center is a highly successful, productive, innovative and collegial organization, with an award-winning staff who are dedicated and focused on using the law to achieve better outcomes for youth. As we celebrate our fortieth anniversary in 2015, we expect the next Executive Director to cultivate these qualities, and provide strong leadership for continued innovation and growth.
